Koel gives you full control over how your music is streamed, with options to balance quality and bandwidth.

Streaming Methods

Koel supports three streaming methods:

mod_xsendfile	Apache servers	Enable Apache module

For production use, x-accel-redirect (Nginx) or mod_xsendfile (Apache) offload file serving from PHP, dramatically improving performance.

Transcoding with FFmpeg

If you have FFmpeg installed, Koel can transcode audio on the fly:

• Stream FLAC files as AAC to save bandwidth
• Configurable bitrate (128kbps, 192kbps, 256kbps, 320kbps)
• Mobile-optimized: force lower bitrates on cellular connections

Equalizer

Koel includes a built-in audio equalizer with presets for different genres and listening environments. Access it from the player bar.

Visualizer

For a visual treat, click the visualizer icon in the player bar. Koel features multiple visualizer modes powered by WebGL and Butterchurn, including classic Winamp-style presets.
